Kirkjufell is Iceland's most photographed mountain—a distinctive 463-meter peak on the Snæfellsnes peninsula whose conical shape dominates the landscape from every angle. The mountain's name means "Church Mountain," referencing its resemblance to a steeple, though some see an arrow, witch's hat, or wizard's cap. Kirkjufell gained worldwide fame as the "Arrowhead Mountain" in Game of Thrones, where it appeared in scenes north of the Wall. The classic photography spot is across the road at Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall, where the small cascade perfectly frames the mountain behind—an image that has appeared in countless travel magazines and Instagram feeds. The mountain can be climbed but the route is steep, exposed, and requires experience—several fatal accidents have occurred. Most visitors are content with ground-level photography. The town of Grundarfjörður at the mountain's base provides accommodation and services. Kirkjufell is stunning in all seasons and conditions: draped in snow, reflecting in still waters, shrouded in mist, or dramatically lit by Northern Lights.
